EDL demonstrate at site of proposed Islamic Centre in Dagenham
Around 100 EDL members demonstrated opposite the proposed site of an Islamic Centre which will be replacing Dereks butcher’s at 798 Green Lane in Dagenham. A small UAF counter protest was held. London, UK, 12/03/2011.
The English Defence League (EDL) arrived en masse to the protest area after paying tribute to one of their members who lost his life on the train tracks at Chadwell Heath last week after a similar action against the proposed build.
According to a statement from the EDL Facebook page, “Whilst at the station one of our fellow patriots entered the area of train track. A fast train that was passing through the station hit him. The young lad unfortunately died at the scene. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends on this sad day.”
A handful of Unite Against Fascism (UAF) protesters came out to demonstrate but left as they were heavily outnumbered by the EDL. They were escorted onto a bus by the police so they could leave the area safely.
Local shops in the nearby area shut during the action.
