Zionists rally at Israeli Embassy
Over 200 Zionists gathered near the Israeli Embassy to counter demonstrations by the Palestinian people and defend Israel’s raid on the Gaza flotilla. Members of the English Defence League also attended the rally. London, UK, 02/06/2010.
The rally was closer to Palace Avenue as the ongoing Palestinian protests continued, with many outraged that the zionists were out in support of Israel’s actions.
The Israeli crowd was generally young and boisterous and their rally was held a good distance away from the Palestinian demonstration. The police eventually escorted the crowd to High Street Kensington tube station. In doing so they were paraded past the Embassy and on the opposite side of the Palestinian protest. Tensions were high with people on either side shouting abuse at one another.
There was a heavy police presence and a handful of plain clothes security service members observing the situation. There was also a blue unmarked security van parked in front of the gates on Kensington Palace Gardens to monitor the situation at all times.
The young protesters did not take kindly to the limited number of press that were reporting and at one point a large group chased us out of the tube station. After this they were kettled by police into the station and left.
